October 5, 2018 Will US hotel chain Marriott buy former Alfa hotel in Luxembourg Gare?

The former Alfa hotel opposite the Luxembourg City central train station has been standing empty for almost two years, but possibly not for very much longer.

According to information received by Paperjam, a deal with the US hotel chain Marriott International might be about to be struck.

Before it was closed, the Alfa hotel was run under an Accor Group licence under the label "Mercure".

To restore the building and its many rooms to its former glory, it is expected that a two-year renovation project will have to be carried out.

A re-opening of the grand hotel is expected for 2020 at the earliest.

The Marriott Group owns about 6,700 hotels across 130 countries and recently had a turnover of about 22 billion dollars.

The historic hotel closed its doors in March 2017. About 80 people worked at the Alfa.
