July 26, 2019 Internet offers "more and more interesting"
LUXEMBOURG - While customers want more data for mobile Internet and more speed for fixed Internet, operators' offers follow, according to the IRL.
"Consumers in Luxembourg today want more data for mobile Internet and higher speed for fixed Internet. The offers of the operators have decreased accordingly and are more and more interesting ", rejoiced this Friday morning Luc Tapella, director of the Luxembourg Institute of Regulation (IRL), during the presentation of the study of tariffs of the telecommunications in the Grand Duchy in 2019.
Regarding mobile services, the evolution of the monthly median cost between 2018 and 2019 fell by 9 euros (from 48 to 39 euros) for a very intensive use in voice / SMS / data, and almost 6 euros ( from 37.82 to 31 euros) for intensive use in voice / sms / data. "This makes it possible to earn almost 100 euros per year depending on the offer selected," said Marc Kohll, Head of Statistics and Market Intelligence within the IRL.
84.3 euros per month for fixed
In the case of fixed Internet, consumers who select the cheapest Triple Play offer (telephony, Internet, TV) compared to the calculated average cost, with a speed of 100 megabits per second (Mbps), can realize a saving of 385.80 euros per year.
This Friday, the IRL also presented its report for the year 2018. Last year, residents spent on average 25.2 euros per month for mobile services (voice, SMS, mobile Internet), a slight up 0.8% compared to 2017. In parallel, their monthly budget for fixed services (fixed telephony, fixed Internet and television) was on average 84.3 euros per month in 2018, which represents a decrease of 1 , 3% compared to 2017.
It should be noted that the growing consumer demand for more speed for fixed Internet and more data for the mobile Internet was already being verified in 2018. Thus, the fixed Internet subscriptions at announced top speeds of greater than or equal to 100 Mbps were more and more subscribed by customers in Luxembourg and represented, at the end of 2018, a significant portion of 40.7% of the total stock. In parallel, 568 000 mobile Internet users were registered in the Grand Duchy in 2018, up 10.5% compared to 2017. At the same time, mobile Internet traffic continued to grow and recorded a volume of 25 318.8 Terrabyte (+ 20.4% between 2017 and 2018).
