July 5, 2019 64% of residents are followers of social networks

LUXEMBOURG - Facebook, Twitter and other Instagram are increasingly popular in Europe, according to a study. Luxembourg is not immune to the trend

The use of social networks is increasingly important in Europe. More than half of the citizens of the Old Continent (56%) use them now, against 38% in 2011, according to a Eurostat study. The use of these tools involves "creating a profile and posting messages," says the Institute of Statistics.

Luxembourg is a little more connected than the European average, with 64% of users. Not surprisingly, 16-24 year olds are the most adept, with 89% (compared to 88% in the EU as a whole). Finally, 65-74 year olds are 27% to use apps like Facebook and Twitter (19% in the EU).

The biggest consumers of social networks are Danes (79%) and Belgians (73%). At the other end of the scale are the Slovenes (49%), the Italians (46%) and in the last position, the French (42%). As for the Germans, they are a little below the European average (53%).
